Avalon Hollywood - Berlin in the house
Avalon Hollywood & resident DJs Droog are kicking off the new year with a culmination of sorts on January 10th.
It is a night that celebrates two years of collaboration after beginning the residency in early 2007. In addition to promoting and programming the night, Droog will serve as openers, playing an extended set to set the tone for the all evening affair; two rooms of the world’s best dance music to start your year off right.
Four acts in two rooms of music that will also feature some of the best local talent in L.A. A night crafted to compete with any lineup, anywhere in the world; and one that will again emphasize an underground sound that emanates from Germany, with a combination of four artists that have each played in L.A. over the last eighteen months; two at Avalon and two at Droog undergrounds.
On that night Martin Buttrich, Troy Pierce, Konrad Black and Jan Krueger will present the current state of Berlin electronic music
Grammy Award nominated Martin Buttrich is a man who needs no introduction. One of the most accomplished producers in electronic music, for over a decade he kept his head down working as a traditional studio producer, quietly making records for other people, helping to craft the highly influential sounds of DJs such as Timo Maas and Loco Dice, but also delving into pop (The Sugarbabes) and Italo house (Sounds of Life). Buttrich has already released on labels like Planet E, Cocoon and Four:Twenty
Troy Pierce led the charge to Berlin, by way of the Mid-West in late 2002, quickly joining close friends Richie Hawtin and Magda in crafting the Minus mystique, a label that in many ways defined the movement to minimal dance music. A DJ who simply loves to play, Troy is a technical monster with an uncanny ear for the cutting edge, as evidenced by his in demand schedule at the best clubs in the world.
2007 was a breakout year for Konrad Black as a performer, firmly establishing his inimitable persona at the two major North American techno festivals, Winter Music Conference in Miami and DEMF in Detroit. Konrad Black aka Todd Shillington is a Droog mainstay, and was its first ever out of town guest, in November 2006. Konrad Black is pure star material, an electrifying presence with a bad ass record bag, it’s easy to understand why he is considered one of the dance music’s brightest young talents. Black is also co-founder of the Vancouver based Wagon Repair label, unanimously considered one of the best labels of 2008.
Jan Krueger operates the Berlin based label Hello?Repeat and is a highly influential member of the dance music community as a former linchpin of Word and Sound, Germany’s leading distributor. Krueger’s highly individual and addictive mixture of late-night focused deep house, minimal and techno comes with rough edges, is always centered firmly on the dance floor, and guarantees to educate as well as excite. Jan will be headlining the Honey room, set up by some of the best local talent, Lee Foss, Andrew Kelley, and Clovis. Itzone from Mexico City will close the evening.
If you live in the LA area and wanna encounter what makes the Berlin club life so amazing, without having to travel across the atlantic, be there next week.
