Bettina Rheims at C/O Berlin
"Can you find happiness?” is the title of an exhibition by french photographer Bettina Rheims as C/O Berlin.
Smooth surfaces, attitude, frozen poses, and suspended gestures – Bettina Rheims’ photographs of meticulously staged scenes play with the cliché of seduction and the illusion of glamour. She displays female intimacy aggressively but does not expose it voyeuristically. The women in her photographs appear imperfect in their obscene positions, and at the same time, confident and in control in all their vulnerability. Bettina Rheims deconstructs prevailing ideas of beauty in her opulently colored series. Her flawless compositions, with their classic structures and perfect lines, adopt elements from painting, theater, and film.
Bettina Rheims is one of the most famous French photographers working at the interface between commercial and artistic photography. In her work for international magazines and well-known designers, she uses her own distinctive visual language. She has conceptualized her own exhibition for C/O Berlin presenting entirely new work along with famous series like “Chambre Close” and “More Trouble“.
