COKE dj-culture 2007
The 17th edition of the Coke dj-culture tour kicking off on November 8th at Tresor Berlin sees Princess Superstar, Missill and Heidi spinning the wheels of steel.
Since 2003 the COKE dj-culture is devoted to the many facets of DJ culture and enriches the German clubs scene. Several times a year during two or three weeks Coca-Cola provides music nonstop from the record crates of selected turntable activists and takes a look at the latest sounds and influences from various DJ styles. This year COKE dj-culture combines three totally different but perfectly compatible styles represented by Princess Superstar from New York, Missill from Paris and Heidi from London.
Princess Superstar aka Concetta Kirschner has been voted (by U.S. magazine Blender) “The Hottest Women in hip-hop” among Missy Elliott and Lady Sovereign. But also as a DJ she knows how to delight the audience, together with mash-up champion Alexander Technique she was “DJs Are Not Rock Stars”, and as electro rapper she had her first UK Top 20 hit in 2002 with the unforgettable “Bad Babysitter”. Princess Superstar´s DJ sets spread from electro to booty bass, from Justice to Roxy Music, from Berlin to Japan and from a small underground club to the stadium stage.
Missill embraces the finest in underground rhythm straddling, Hip Hop, Breaks, Electro, Grime, Dancehall and Ragga. She’s a DJ, graphic designer, graffiti artist and no holds barred sonic terrorist. In 1999 she was already honing her talent behind the decks as a resident for the BMC “Rumble in the Jungle” nights (at Le Batofar and Le Glazart in Paris). She’s played alongside the likes of Coldcut, Gang Of Four, Vitalic, Laurent Garnier, Carl Craig, Sinclair, RZA(Wu-Tang Clan) and many others. Her new album “Targets” which has been recorded in the famous studio “The Exchange” in London is released in January 2008.
The british DJane Heidi Van Den Amstel was part of the team that opened up London’s foremost record shop, Phonica, and now holds a residency at the WeekEnd club in Berlin. She has been originally adored for her minimal sets, but now enhanced her range of music styles. She loves music which is deep, soulful or has a thick, dirty bassline at least. She works for labels like Get Physical or the London Riton, prince of electro glam.
