Croucher & Myles - Vicious Cycle Video

Soma Records, the Glasgow based electronic music label are active in promoting the genre in many ways.

After Soma Skool on the 25th of April, an educational project for the youth, the next project supported by the record label is devoted to charity. On the 26th of May Croucher & Myles will release their “Vicious Cycle” 12” on Soma, which will contain three remixes and whose profits go entirely to some charitable institution.

Vicious Cycle will be the first release by Ian Croucher and Leigh Myles on Soma. Ian Croucher is already known to a wider audience as he is working in music for over a decade now and for his discovery of the Scottish star Mylo in 2002.

The hard and reduced electronic drum beats along to the freaky voice singing unintelligible lyrics which get repeated by the electro bleeps and glitchy tones. The pulsating high speed track finally fades away - making the listener look forward to a repetition of this hard core dance floor track.

Add to that a trippy, dubbed-out remix from Hum + Haw chief Alex Smoke and a punishing, warbling take from The Unknown Wanderer and the result is a truly devastating 12” ready to detonate.

All profits made from the single will be donated to the Yorkhill Children’s Hospital whose aim it is to help sick children by making their stay in hospital less distressing. The money raised will go towards funding medical equipment, research, and treatment facilities.

Famed Glasgow artist Peter Howson has been enlisted in helping the charity by providing artwork for the single. Howson’s figurative portrayals of violence, poverty, despair and squalor have made him one of the foremost British artists of his generation. The work he has donated to Croucher & Myles’ project is a deeply personal one depicting Howson’s own battle with his personal demons.

Soma will be releasing an extremely limited run of 20 vinyl in printed canvas sleeves and auctioning these off to aid the charity.
