Diane von Furstenberg - NYC Fashion Week

The Diane von Furstenberg catwalk at New York Fashion Week was the first real social highlight of the event.

Diane von Furstenberg who was born in Belgium, is a benchmark in the american fashion scene since many decades and currently she is the president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).

The catwalk which was opened by a modern version of her famed wraparound dress which is in the collection of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art took place, according to the importance of this event, at “The Tent” of course.

Her collection was a resurrection of the Woodstock era. Under the competent eyes of Uma Thurman, Jennifer Lopez, Venus Williams, Eva Longoria and Tatum O’Neill as well as the press and the buyers of stores like Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Neiman Marcus where you can buy the exclusive designs of Diane von Furstenberg, the models who wore flowers in their hair and were styled like hippies presented floating dresses, printed with patterns which brought memories back about the 60’s. One item which hopefully will soon be forgotten after next year’s spring/summer season, the harem pant which we were able to spot at other shows as well, came with a colorful pastel print.

In the end it were the prints which caught the eye of the fashionistas at The Tent and when it comes to prints, Diane von Furstenberg is quite an expert as we could already see during her last collection - inspired by painters. Printed blouses, dresses and pants with applications made out of pearls which had the size of M&Ms, as well as gold lamé shorts were the adorable items of the show.

In the end it weren’t the clothes, but the power of beauty and the femininity you express by wearing clothes by DvF. We are corious if the flowers in the girl’s hairs can be spotted next year in the fashion capitols of the world. One accessory which will see it’s rebirth in the cities will be the “slouch hat” which at last protects you from the sun and which was to be seen in some fresh yellow color, combined with a beautiful short white dress and orange sandals.

In the end the front row girls and i were very satisfied with what we saw and it is from my personal point of view obvious that this collection which again reflected all of Diane von Furstenberg’s skills and experience will be another of her successful collections when it’ll be available in the stores in spring 2009.
