Duckie Brown - New York Fashion Week

Location: “The Salon” Date: Friday, September 5th - 1pm - time for the spring/summer 09 collection of Duckie Brown at New York Fashion Week.

After our visit to Perry Ellis we now attended another men’s fashion designer show by the industry darling Duckie Brown who celebrates a new partnership - each Duckie Brown look will feature a Montblanc timepiece.

Regarding the fact that the list of celebrities who were expected to attend included Brad Pitt, Linda Evangelista, Kate Moss, Tom Brady, LeBron James, Daniel Craig, Justin Timberlake, Jeff Koons and Mariah Carey, spirits were high and so we were looking forward to some entertaining catwalk with exciting fashion to be seen.

Duckie Brown’s mission, “dressing men beautifully,” was accomplished on that day by black and grey suits, shorts, shirts, tees and nylon hoods with electric blue and bright yellow elements. As we are all looking for men who take risks when it comes to fashion, the label which was founded in 2001 by Daniel Silver and Steven Cox is always good for some pleasant surprises.

Men in body suits was what we were to encounter as every of the 25 combinations shown during the catwalk included one of them which was to remind us about bike messengers. We saw a blazer with a laser-cut mesh pattern, like ventilated gym shorts, which looked as exquisite here as a zip-front jacket that was patterned on a Nike windbreaker, with panels of gray pinstripes and mesh and an elasticized waist. All the male models looked very athletic in their outfits which underlined the sporty look of all the designs.

What we saw during Duckie Browns catwalk were wider pants legs which might bring an end to the current fashion trend of men in skintight jeans, which even made Karl Lagerfeld loose several pounds in order to be able to fit into those trousers which results in a look you can find regulary on the streets of Berlin and other fashion capitals that often fluctuates between the Robin Hood look and some saussage like effect - especially when the wearer isn’t that skinny.

Overall we really loved the collection which might be the most progressive men’s wear we might come along during this fashion week, with it’s dark colors and some blue outfit which looked like a long summer dress, with a jacket covered with dots and the knickerbockers for the more daring man.

To us the Duckie Brown collection looked very european and therfore we hope that the pieces will show up during next year’s spring summer season not only in New York or Miami but as well in Paris, Milan, London or Berlin.
