Galerie Schuster Berlin exhibitions

From April 6 till May 7 Galerie Schuster presents works by Anja Manfredi and Anita Witek.

Anja Manfredi explores in her paintings the body as a means of communication, its role in the unconscious as well as conscious (self-) production, and the importance of time within these processes and what shifts arise when the time runs and re-assembles. Finally she challenges the viewer through the simultaneous use of interlocking and almost all artistic media (performance, photography, sculpture and installation, film and documentation), which result in her photographies.

Anita Witeks Anita Witeks photographs from the series “Notes about Aminadab” are pictures of collages. Collages, which she creates temporarily like puzzles. The title of the series is based on a novel by Maurice Blanchot of 1942. She creates from ads and other promotional clips nested, empty spaces, which she fixes by means of her photos. Through the transfer into an image, which in itself doesn’t show transitions between it’s parts, or similar things, she gives an even stronger, kafkaesque aura to her architecture.

At a second exhibition opening on Saturday the 5th of April between 6 and 9 pm at Schuster’s second Berlin Gallery, works by Christopher Mir get presented.

Christopher Mir (born in 1970 in Baltimore, Maryland) processed in his colourful paintings motives and excerpts from journals, catalogues or own photographs. In fantastic, vast landscapes he arranged people, machinery, animals or buildings in surrealist compositions. Not of this world, and yet with allusions and bonds of “our” reality. Places and times, fairy tales and reality seem to have lost intertwined. With his preference for strong colours and neo-romantic nature scenes, with flower carpets or wild mountain valleys, it offers the viewer beguiling views, which simultaneously beautiful and confusing - as if the wonderful, but in its intensity and half-narcotic scent of an exotic Plant covers about everything.

Duration: April 5th - May 17th 2008, Opening hours: Tue - Sat 2pm - 7pm and on appointment.
