Kompakt Total 8 Party - Pictures and Videos

While Tobias Becker kept entertaining the audience which consisted of the usual Kompakt posse and visitors of the c/o pop conference, it was time for the first very special appearance of Burger/Voigt on the first floor. This Kompakt party saw the first ever appearance of the Kompakt label founder Wolfgang Voigt and his long time companion Jörg Burger under the moniker Burger/Voigt. Ten years ago the duo were better known as Burger/Ink and had a fabulous release “Las Vegas” and last night they proved that they are still able to rock the house. Burger/Voigt’s act was the first real home game of the night and the audience reacted to every single note with cheers and screams while dancing without a pause. You always have the best experiences when you are able to see acts perform in their hometown and last night was no exception. Don’t know yet if they’ll perform at next year’s Total 9 party but seeing the guys and their audience would surely be reason enough to book your flights to cologne. During their live set you could hear Roxy Music samples as well as parts of Kraftwerk and they even had to do some encore before 2007’s shooting star The Field took over.

Back to the basement floor! Using the word legend always sounds as if the people are a hundred years old but at 2am and for the next hour it was time for Robert Babic - another legendary cologne musician. Robert did a live set as well, performing various tracks including material from his may release “A Cheerful Temper”. As i said before, the mood was getting better and better during the event and Robert Babic put the audience into another state of trance without playing trance music naturally. At a pace of around 130 beats per minute the audience could nothing else but dance and shout to the great music Robert performed behind his midi controllers and his laptop. Lucky enough the age of the introverted laptop performer is over as Robert Babic showed when he was constantly moving behind his set up although from his outer appearance he is more like a person which would let you expect to produce some more quite and peaceful live set. Huuuuuge!

Still remaining on the basement level i next encountered the very first minutes of Jennifer Cardini’s set - special guest of the night - well known for her residency at Rex Club in Paris who started off the techno way before she changed her style to some more groove oriented sounds which better matched the overall mood that was present. If she had planned this change or not - during her set Jennifer prooved why she is one of the world’s top female djs. The audience simply loved her and she did some great performance behind the turntables with a great choice of music.

When i walked the stairs to the upper level “The Field” was doing the last minutes of his live set, showing why he got so prominent lately. The more harder electronic sounds are his signature and he naturally presented stuff from his release “From here we go sublime”. The audience didn’t go sublime but kept moving their bodys - waiting for the next cologne highlight of this night.
