Mapplethorpe, Warhol, Richardson, Goldin photo exhibition at C/O Berlin
Stripped Bare . Der entblößte Körper - nude photography by world famous photographers is currently exhibited at C/O Berlin.
Nobuyoshi Araki, Nan Goldin, Andy Warhol, Robert Mapplethorpe, Terry Richardson and Cindy Sherman are only the most prominent names in the list of photographers which are presented in the old halls of the Postfuhramt, located at Oranienburger Straße back here in Berlin.
The swiss collector, movie director and producer Thomas Koerfer shows some 150 pictures of (mostly) naked bodies from his collection. This is actually the first time that he made his huge collection available to the public.
The naked body is the oldest and most fascinating object in the history of art. In former times, artists tried to produce some ideal image. In todays nude photography - with Terry Richardson being the most prominent representative - there’s only the naked truth which is to be seen in the pictures. Only the naked truth, or just some projection of some image inside our head?
The exhibition at Postfuhramt uses most of the space the building has to offer. You start in the basement and walk along the pictures which vary between the size of a palm and near lifesize. The exhibits are mainly photography without very few exceptions - some photorealistic paintings and two to three videos.
Some of the pictures you can see in this exhibition which is for grownups only - as the sign on the entrance clearly points out - go into the detail of human anatomy without being pornographic at all.
If you belong to the grown up part of society you can get yourself an impression by visiting the exhibition “Stripped Bare . Der entblößte Körper - Fotografien aus der Sammlung Thomas Koerfer” between the 28th of september and the 9th of december 2007 at C/O Berlin - located on the corner of Oranienburger Straße and Tucholskystraße.
