MTV - EMAs 2009 head for Berlin

Already for the fourth time the awards ceremony is organized in Germany. The EMAs 2009 will take place in the German capital Berlin.

The awards now return back to the city where it all started in 1994 to celebrate the 20th jubilee of the fall of the Berlin wall.

“The first MTV Europe Music Awards took place in Berlin in 1994 and we are proud to be invited to return, to be part of the festivities surrounding the 20th jubilee of the fall of the Berlin wall”, commented Richard Godfrey, Senior Vice President Content & Music, MTV Networks International and Executive Producer MTV Europe Music Awards. “We won’t just return to the place where the very first MTV Europe Music Awards ever took place - at Brandenburg Gate - we are going to encounter and make use of Berlin’s latest arrival to the live music scene, the O2 World Arena.”

Even Berlin’s reigning Lord Mayor Klaus Wowereit is looking forward to the EMAs and heralded the following statement: “Berlin is honored that the MTV Europe Music Awards will come to the German capital next year. MTV has chosen Berlin in a year when the fall of the Berlin wall will be celebrated for the 20th time. This is a big enrichment for the city. We are looking forward to seeing many international stars in Berlin. MTV’s descision to bring back the Europe Music Awards to Berlin again after it’s premiere in 1994, is a strong statement for Berlin as a location of the creative and media industry!”
