NEW COLORS FOR THE EAST SIDE GALLERY
Artists from around the world who once gave birth to the East Side Gallery at the Berliner Wall are now invited to repaint the original images.
The colorful images created in 1989/90 are today hardly recognizable. The paintings and the wall are in an extremely deteriorated condition through weather, air pollution, vandalistic collectors, and simply time.
During the next month the historical monument located between Ostbahnhof and Oberbaum Bridge will be restored.
In autumn the artists involved will start repainting the segments of the wall. Almost all of the once 118 artists from home and abroad have been invited to restore their colorful motives. If the restoration works quickly move on, the East Side Gallery might look as new until the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall in November 2009.
