Paris Ready-to-Wear A/W 2008
From today, Saturday, February 23 until March 2 Paris Ready-to-Wear A/W 2008 will present 90 catwalk shows during nine days.
Besides the big names of French fashion (Chanel, Dior, Christian Lacroix, Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent ...) the time schedule includes only a few newcomers.
Esteban Cortazar, 23 years old, must show that he is capable of giving new life to Ungaro. Born in Columbia the young fashion designer Esteban Cortazar showed his first collection in New York at the age of 18. Since then, he has dressed celebrities such as Beyoncé, Eva Longoria and Paris Hilton and now at the age of 23 he is the new head designer for Ungaro. He is the fourth stylist in charge of ready-to-wear for the fashion house since the departure of Emanuel Ungaro in 2005.
For the first time one of the most famous designers from India, Rajesh Pratap Singh, will present his fashion in Paris. Based in New Delhi, Rajesh Pratap Singh graduated from National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi in 1994 and worked for two years in India and Italy before he launched his own range of wears for international markets in 1996. He is known for unusual combinations of fabrics, embellishments and the supreme wearability of his clothes.
Other newcomers include two duos: the Japanese Iku Furudate and Kaito for Commuun Hori, and the french couple Francis Alary, 26, and Ophelia Klère, 25 years, for Dévastée.
Hori studied at the Arnhem Academy of the Arts and Ikurudate had formal design training at Tokyo’s Bunka Fashion College, a university founded in 1919 and responsible for the first fashion magazine in Japan, So-en. Their collections are pure minimalism and the fabrics are natural materials.
Both founders of the label Dévastée studied at the fashion college ESMOD Paris and their work is all about fashion and depression, “fairly grim, but not morbid”.
