q.e.d wins Karstadt New Generation Award - report and pictures

To support new and upcoming fashion talents is the target of the Karstadt New Generation Award which was celebrated on monday.

Jasmin Moallim (*1976), Julia Böge (*1983) and Simona Gabrieli (*1983), who collaborate under the brand name q.e.d since 2006 could defeat the other nominees on monday, the 28th of january at the 2nd Karstadt New Generation Award.

According to their brand name “quod erat demonstrandum” the young female designers proved their nose for the right mixture of clear cuts and expensive details. Their men’s collection for autumn/winter 2008 which was without an exception all in black and white color, is adressed to men with style, who aim to express themselves by using subtle statements, belonging to a gender which is generally dressed in some unitary style more or less.

A concept which in the end convinced the advisory panel. q.e.d was chosen as the most creative and innovative label out of four Berlin fashion labels which as well included Miroike, Mongrels in common and Pulver. The winners will now get the chance to design a collection for Karstadt, which will be sold - starting in autumn 2008 - at Karstadt’s premium stores like KaDeWe (Berlin), Oberpollinger (Munich) and the Alsterhaus (Hamburg).

Advisory Panel: Anita Bachelin (Premium Exhibitions) - Melissa Drier (Women’s Wear Daily) - Dr. Ulf Poschardt (Editor-in-Chief of German Vanity Fair) - Dr. Adelheid Rasche (Curator of the Lipperheide Costume Library) - Roland Schneckenburger (Head of Design - Karstadt AG) - Stephan Schneider (Designer and lecturer at UdK Berlin) - Norbert Tillmann (Premium Exhibitions) - Joseph Voelk (The Corner Berlin) - Annette Weber (Editor-in-Chief InStyle) - Dr. Harald Wolf (Berlin Senator for Economics, Technology & Women’s Issues) - Dr. Moritz Wullen (Director Berlin Art Library)

As one easily can guess the jury had some very tough descision to make and obviously thought it was time to support designers who care about people who are strongly in need of fashionate clothing: men. One collection that from it’s class and style caught our eye was Pulver. But as with every competition - there only can be one winner and so Berlinista congratulates q.e.d and wishes them all the best on their way into the future as some remarkable fashion brand from Berlin.
