Strychnin Gallery Berlin - Photography exhibition
“Nuclear Religions”, “Recent Photographic Works” and “Sorrows & Blessings” are the titles of three current exhibitions at Strychnin Gallery Berlin.
Davey Jones and Dayvid LeMmon are two American artists working with the medium of photography. Through digital manipulation and post production, both achieve stunning effects: While Jones’ work takes you straight into an action-packed movie set, LeMmon’s work is reminiscent of monochromatic etchings of the Old Masters – or movies by Ingmar Bergmann. Lisa Mei Ling Fong is an assemblage artist. She assembles and arranges personal collections of relics in her signature “Introversion Boxes” to create sentimental memorials.
Davey Jones tells an entire story in a single image. Drawing from a diverse palette of tools, both digital and traditional, Jones has developed his own hybrid approach that appears both cutting edge and modern, yet deeply familiar and firmly rooted in classical traditions, resulting in a culmination of traditional filmmaking and painting techniques applied to fine art photography.
Dayvid LeMmon was introduced to photography in his grandfather’s darkroom at a young age and has spent much of his life with a camera in hand. Formally trained in traditional black and white photography, he is entirely self taught in digital techniques. Growing up during photography’s transition from film to digital has provided him both a strong background and unique insight into his medium’s technical and artistic possibilities.
Lisa Mei Ling Fong is an assemblage artist. She assembles and arranges personal collections of relics in her signature “Introversion Boxes” to create sentimental memorials. By composing themes either real or imagined, she perpetually develops the importance of what memory is as it relates to our fleeting existence. She states: “My artwork is my journal entry: a personal note on the efforts of a life that must inevitably traverse a timeline that is terminal. Death is what reminds me to live - not as an empty and floating being, but as a temporal entity that can touch all of what is around me. My Introversion Boxes are celebrations of Life by celebrating Death.”
