THE ROXY THEATRE - The #1 club on Twitter
Opened in 1973, The Roxy Theatre is Sunset Strip’s premier music venue and 10.000 followers makes them the most followed club on social network Twitter.
Thanks to hundreds of ticket/VIP package giveaways (‘Tweetstakes’), frequent drink specials for its followers and ‘Twitter Mondays’ where followers get two show tickets for free, legendary Los Angeles music and nightlife venue THE ROXY THEATRE has made social networking history surpassing the 10,000 follower mark to become the #1 club/venue on Twitter in the world. @theroxy has emanated over 2,700 updates and is very active with its neighbors and surrounding community on the world-famous Sunset Strip, making it also the #1 Twitter account in West Hollywood where the club is based.
Twitter has helped the club to stay relevant with a new generation of music fans, but it wasn’t always that way. Two years ago, the nightlife destination, known since 1973 for breaking such legendary musical acts as Mötley Crüe, Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, System of a Down, Guns n’ Roses and Incubus, had hit a slump. The website was inadequate, the club’s reputation was dated and ticket sales were down. Owner Nic Adler turned to social media for help launching a brand new website with http://theroxyonsunset.com/ featuring a continuously updated blog, opened Twitter, MySpace and Flickr accounts and transformed his own mentality about communicating with club patrons.
Witnessing what was happening to the music industry, Nic knew the club’s old school model of competition and exclusivity would no longer work. By turning to social media, he was able to open his doors (both literally and physically) to a community that desperately wanted to connect with artists, the club, and each other. The results were unprecedented.
We’ve increased our number of patrons by at least a third by creating an environment out there where you can speak to The Roxy,” states Nic Adler. “It’s helped bring in business, which wasn’t the goal. Initially I thought the goal was to have advertising online, but then it turned into the conversation, which has changed people’s perceptions.”
