The Ting Tings - We Started Nothing
The Ting Tings will release their debut album ‘We Started Nothing’ on May 19, 2008 via Sony BMG.
Katie started her musical career in a “girl’s band”, “the kind of stuff that people did in the 90’s” she says with a smile. As for Jules, born and raised in the east of London, his latin charisma contrasts with the “nothern butchness” of Katie. Even though she’s the one who pushed him into forming the band, The Ting Tings remains a genuine duo : words & music are both written and composed by the 2.
Jules participates to Katie’s musical education by getting her into artists such as Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club, The Smiths and Velvet Underground amongst others. Quickly, The Ting Tings are taking shape when Katie starts learning the guitar, while Jules rediscovers the drums, his weapon of choice. Together, they redefine the very essence of the british pop sound : catchy choruses, saturated guitars, samples and delay pedal.
‘We Started Nothing’ is a debut album brimming with intuitive pop nouse. It’s pure garage-pop and once heard will in-bed itself into your subconscious for many days, weeks, months to come.
A deliriously appealing mix of Go-Gos beat pop, clubbier beats and Katie’s grippingly rankled vocal delivery The Ting Tings fashioned their entire album in six weeks at The Mill.
