New York Fashion Week: Zac Posen
The presentation of Zac Posen’s collection on thursday was the glitzy highlight of New York Fashion Week A/W 09.
Few days ahead of the Oscars, Zac Posen’s collection brought some of the extravaganza of the Hollywood of the 40’s to the New York catwalk. As the Hollywood type of entertainment is always a part of Zac’s collections, it didn’t come as a big surprise that the music for the catwalk was performed live. Three young women and two young men, “The 5 Browns”, were sitting at their Steinway pianos directly on the runway and played the live soundtrack for the catwalk.
Due to the fact that New York Fashion Week was very close to the Oscars and therefore many celebs were in a hurry to get back to LA, Zac Posens show nevertheless saw many well known faces like Claire Danes, Nicole Richie, Sandra Bernhardt, Alicia Keyes, Ellen von Unwerth, Rachel Bilson, Leigh Lezark and Santigold.
Zac Posen’s collection had that certain victorian style and parts of it could’ve been easily used as costumes for a movie about the epoque, when the British empire still ruled the waves. Zac Posen’s creations always make women look something in between spectacular and seductive. Gold and silver, red and onyx, but as well grey and beige were the colors of the cloth with unique patterns.
Even though the master tried to follow the victorian style - the collection never looked old fashioned or un-sexy - au contraire! Long robes where the shoulder parts revealed more than they hid, or skirts which ended way above the knee - the victorian gentleman would’ve liked it and we again were pleasantly surprised by Zac Posen’s creative ideas for the colder season of the year.
After his last collection which looked as if Mr. Posen took some kind of creative break, this time the young master could be encountered in the role that suits him best - as the creative genius who has become some essential part of New York Fashion Week.
